About
Dr. Daniel Howell has a B.S. in Biology from Old Dominion University (1992) and a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from Virginia Tech (1997). After getting his doctorate, Howell spent six years conducting biomedical research on cystic fibrosis at Duke University Medical Center and McGill University in Montreal before joining the faculty at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia, where he now teaches human anatomy and physiology to premedical, nursing, and other pre-professional students.
In 2007, Howell became an avid barefoot runner and began studying the benefits of barefoot walking and running, as well as the negative impact shoes have on foot anatomy and biomechanics. He published a book on the subject in 2010 (The Barefoot Book: 50 Great Reasons to Kick Off Your Shoes) and has since lectured on foot health at sports and medical conferences internationally and given hundreds of interviews for television, radio, and print media. Known as The Barefoot Professor, Howell rarely shoes any more and almost never when he teaches. Who says Christian colleges are stodgy places?!
Howell’s newest book Sometimes Deceived: Why Evolution is Fake Science defends creationism from a scientific perspective. Although he was educated exclusively in secular institutions of learning, Howell has always doubted the claims of evolutionists. Having studied the subject now for decades, Dr. Howell argues that evolution is not even science but rather a creation myth for the atheist worldview. He considers Darwinian biological evolution as one of the greatest impediments to effective evangelism in Western society and is on a mission to expose the logical fallacies and empirical failures of Darwin's hypothesis. Howell seeks to explain why Christians can confidently reject evolution and embrace creationism. Despite the hurling insults, you, dear Christian, are not a “flat Earther” for acknowledging divine design in nature. Indeed, it is the evolutionist who rejects reason and science to cling to a religious-like dogma.
Although a scientist by training, Dr. Howell is also an engaged American citizen. Howell assisted Liberty University’s president, Jerry Falwell Jr., write the speech that Falwell delivered at the 2016 Republican National Convention and has conducted media interviews and debates on a number of social and cultures issues, including gun control and abortion.
Dr. Howell resides on a farm in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in central Virginia with his wife and one remaining child before the nest is empty.
